El Jardin is dedicated to producing the highest quality breads using pure ingredients and artisanal techniques. Our breads are naturally leavened* using sourdough starter and are baked in an Alan Scott wood-fired brick oven. We carefully source the best grains for our breads, and support local farmers as often as possible.
El Jardin began in 2001 in downtown Holyoke, Massachusetts. For the first few years, we were a wholesale-only bakery, selling to markets, restaurants and CSAs in the Pioneer Valley. In 2006, we expanded to farmers markets and, in 2008, when we moved the bakery to South Deerfield, we began cafe service out of our new space. Our business has grown, and we now sell our bread to the Valley's best restaurants and food stores, and sell at several farmers markets, yet we still maintain our careful craftsmanship, freshness and quality, shaping each loaf by hand.
*With the exception of our challah, for which we utilize baker's yeast.
